Inpatient rehabilitation

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at Parham Doctor's Hospital is Richmond's premier location for inpatient rehabilitation. We offer many services to our patients and their families as they embark on their return-to-wellness journey, such as family and caregiver education and training, support groups for stroke survivors, pain management, relaxation therapy groups and pet/animal-assisted therapy. Depending on your treatment plan, your inpatient rehabilitation can include:

Parham Doctors’ Hospital offers a 36-bed unit located on the fourth floor of the main hospital with 25 private rooms and six semiprivate rooms. Each room has a walk-in shower, grab bars and adaptive equipment for toileting and grooming, including Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sinks and toilets.

Our inpatient rehabilitation therapy gym offers over 3,000 square feet of space where patients have access to state-of-the-art recovery equipment including the Biones BITS®, Bioness L300® and L200®, Bioness Vector®, Armeo® Spring, Saebo, Nustep, SciFit and VitalStim®. We also offer private treatment rooms for patients needing less stimulation during therapy.

Outpatient rehabilitation

Fall assessment

Our therapists at Parham Doctors’ Hospital can complete a thorough physical therapy evaluation to determine any areas that may be contributory. Is it weakness, a vestibular issue, lack of sensation, unsafe movement patterns or something further? We can help you figure that out and provide appropriate treatments to address those deficits.

What does a fall assessment involve?

  • An assessment of the patient’s strength, flexibility and functional movement patterns

Functional manual medicine

Functional manual medicine serves patients with musculoskeletal disorders using a functional approach. Our therapists combine traditional physical therapy and functional manual medicine to treat children, teenagers and adults. Our goal is to help patients return to their prior functional level: living, learning and playing each and every day.

What does functional manual medicine involve?

Hand therapy

The Rehabilitation Center at Parham Doctors’ Hospital offers specialized therapy for treatment of the hands, wrists and elbows by certified hand therapists. Our goal is to restore the flexibility, strength and function needed to perform life’s necessary tasks, such as working, playing and performing all activities of daily living. Our hand therapists work with patients of all ages, including newborns.

Post-surgical hand conditions we treat:

An orthotic evaluation may involve a lower extremity and foot assessment, custom molding and casting of the foot and/or an individualized exercise program in addition to making orthotics.

Speech and communication disorders treatment

Our speech language pathologists provides patients with specific treatment plans that include one-to-one direct therapy sessions. Patient/family training and education are also provided to maximize quality of life, level of function and independence.

  • Neuromuscular electrical stimulation/E-stim (if applicable)

Rehabilitation admissions and appointments

A physician-signed order is required to participate in our rehabilitation programs. Some insurance providers may require pre-authorization.

Your first appointment with the Rehabilitation Center may last about an hour, and your treatments will determine the duration of future appointments.
